Actor James McAvoy has won the best actor award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Scotland Awards.

The 35-year-old, who was nominated for the best actor category for his film “Filth”, received the award in the annual award show Sunday, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

An adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel with the same name, the film story revolves around a corrupt, drug-taking alcoholic cop (McAvoy).

The best actress award was received by Sophie Kennedy Clark for her performance in “Philomena”.

Started in 1989, BAFTA Scotland is the Scottish branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
